Are you missing all the festive decorations after taking down your Christmas decor? I was feeling this too, so of course I headed to my trusty Cricut to make some DIY Valentine’s Day Decor to add some color back into my space! In this blog post, I’ll show you how to create a cute & easy paper heart garland using your Cricut machine. This quick Cricut Valentine Project will add a touch of color to your home this Valentine’s Day, and is a DIY craft anyone with a Cricut can do!
Materials Needed
Here’s a list of the materials you’ll need to get started. You should also consider where you’ll want to hang up your paper heart garland and any materials required to hang up. I hung mine on a bulletin board with decorative clothespins.
- 3 colors of cardstock
- Tape runner or glue
- String (I used about 56 inches)
Steps
1. Choose 3 colors of cardstock
Pick out three colors of cardstock that go well together. I chose a dark, medium and light color to have enough contrast in the hearts – red, pink, and lavender.
2. Cut the project with your Cricut machine
Once you have chosen your cardstock colors, it’s time to cut the heart shapes using your Cricut machine. I made it super easy for you and created the project for you in design space, so all you have to do is press “make it!”
3. Assemble the paper heart, mixing and matching the colors
After cutting out the heart shapes, it’s time to assemble the paper hearts. Mix and match the colors so that there are 2 hearts of each color combo – copy the example in the project if you get confused! I used a small glue pen to attach the hearts together. Apply a thin amount so that it doesn’t take long to dry or warp the paper from being too wet. I also like tape runners for projects like these because there is no dry time!
4. Put hearts on string
Now its time to slide each heart onto the string – make sure that the string is along the back of the heart! Don’t worry about the spacing of the hearts too much right now.

5. Hang up your new DIY Valentine’s Day decor
Now, all that’s left to do is hang up your paper heart garland. Hang them up on your mantle, a bulletin board, or anywhere else that needs some decor. I hung them on my bulletin board with decorative clothespins. Slide the hearts to evenly space them and then admire your new DIY Valentine’s decor!
Creating a paper heart garland is a fun and easy way to decorate your home for Valentine’s Day. With just a few materials and your Cricut machine, you can add a touch of love and charm to any room. Get creative with your color choices and patterns to make a garland that truly reflects your style.
